Toyota’s bZ4X Lands in Singapore – A Reminder That Quality Cars Still Come From Toyota

After years of anticipation, the Toyota bZ4X electric SUV is finally available for purchase in Singapore, bringing with it a series of meaningful updates that make it more than just a delayed arrival. Originally slated to launch here in 2022 as part of an electric vehicle leasing scheme, this iteration has been refined across the board, from performance to design, and could play a key role in Toyota’s all-electric ambitions locally.

What’s New in the Latest bZ4X The updated bZ4X now comes with a slightly larger battery capacity and a modest boost in overall power. Its exterior has been subtly revised, including a redesigned front bumper, while inside, the cabin has seen significant improvements.

A new 14-inch infotainment screen takes centre stage on the dashboard, paired with a redesigned centre console featuring two inductive smartphone chargers. The gear selector has been repositioned, and climate controls now include dual roundels for driver and passenger temperature settings. The system is responsive and intuitive, although some adjustment may be needed for those familiar with older Toyota layouts.

The driver’s seat sits slightly taller, likely to maintain clear visibility of the 7-inch instrument cluster, and ventilated seat fans help deliver a quiet, comfortable ride.

Driving Experience Behind the wheel, the bZ4X immediately impresses. Steering feels weighty and precise, power delivery is linear, and the brakes inspire confidence. Ride quality is comfortable yet composed, absorbing uneven road surfaces with ease—a balance many newer electric brands are still working to achieve. While road noise could be slightly better insulated and steering feedback a bit more communicative, these are minor quibbles compared with the overall comfort and control offered.

Energy efficiency is strong, with an average economy of 6.8 km/kWh, slightly above the stated 6.1 km/kWh, giving a practical driving range of around 470 km per charge.

How It Stands in the Market At a price of S$218,888, the bZ4X is competitively positioned against rivals like the Skoda Enyaq (from S$256,900), the smart #5 Pro (from S$227,000), and the XPENG G6 Long Range AWD (from S$216,999). While some competitors may offer slightly higher power outputs, the bZ4X benefits from Toyota’s long-standing reputation and extensive experience in vehicle electrification, which remains a strong selling point for many buyers.

Final Thoughts Despite its delayed entry into Singapore, the bZ4X demonstrates that Toyota continues to understand what makes a great car. It combines comfort, reliability, and advanced EV technology in a way that few can match. For drivers looking for a familiar yet modern electric SUV, the bZ4X proves that being late to the party doesn’t necessarily mean missing out—especially when the product is this accomplished.
