The Rise of Dubai as a Global Wealth Destination

Dubai is on the brink of becoming one of the primary beneficiaries of a significant global wealth transfer, as indicated by a recent report from Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The report sheds light on how demographic changes, market volatility, and evolving investment priorities are reshaping the deployment of capital by the world's wealthiest families.

Published as the inaugural installment in the Centre's 2026 Future of Finance series, the report titled "Global Wealth Outlook: Rethinking growth in a changing world" outlines the reevaluation of strategies by high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) amidst a rapidly evolving financial landscape. With close to 23 million affluent individuals holding an estimated USD 87 trillion, their decisions are influencing global capital flows and positioning Dubai as a favored destination for private wealth.

The report highlights a structural realignment occurring in global wealth management. Ongoing market fluctuations, geopolitical uncertainties, and varying regulations have made geographical considerations as crucial as asset allocation in long-term wealth planning. Jurisdictional stability, clarity, and resilience have emerged as fundamental factors — areas where Dubai is solidifying its appeal.

A significant catalyst behind this transformation is the projected $124 trillion intergenerational wealth transfer anticipated by 2048. As younger heirs assume leadership roles in family businesses, their priorities are reshaping investment patterns. The upcoming generation of wealth inheritors is pursuing "multi-dimensional prosperity," seeking financial gains alongside resilience against market downturns, portfolio flexibility, enhanced family cohesion, reputational strength, and quantifiable environmental and social impact.

This generational shift is directing capital towards private markets, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and impact investments. Noteworthy is the increasing involvement of women — now constituting over 10% of ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) — who are set to inherit 95% of the $54 trillion in inter-spousal transfers. Female wealth leaders tend to prioritize ethical, purpose-driven investments, ranging from renewable energy to charitable endeavors.

Artificial intelligence is emerging as a highly sought-after sector among HNWIs, particularly for its potential to enhance healthcare, education, and resource efficiency. Sustainable investments are also gaining traction, with renewable energy forecasted to experience rapid growth in private portfolios. The ultra-wealthy are not just paying lip service to sustainability, but are backing it with substantial financial commitments, the report emphasizes.

The shift in wealth priorities is also altering the expectations placed on advisors. In addition to technical financial expertise, advisors now need to excel in understanding private deal structures, leveraging data-driven insights, and navigating intricate family dynamics. Despite technological advancements, wealth management remains a profoundly human profession rooted in trust, relationships, and personalized comprehension.

Arif Amiri, CEO of DIFC Authority, remarked that the global wealth landscape is undergoing a fundamental transformation. "Geographical allocation is increasingly becoming as crucial as investment strategies," he noted. "Dubai, and specifically DIFC, has anticipated this shift and provides a stable, globally connected environment with regulatory transparency."

The report underscores Dubai's burgeoning status as a global center for private and family wealth. The UAE attracted approximately 9,800 new millionaires in 2025 — the highest net inflow globally — with the majority choosing Dubai as their new home, according to Henley & Partners. DIFC currently accommodates over 1,289 family-related entities, constituting the largest ecosystem of its kind in the country.

As family offices become more sophisticated, DIFC is expanding its services, including the innovative DIFC Family Wealth Centre, tailored to assist multi-generational families with governance, education, and strategic planning.
